About PauaPaua is the Maori name given to the New Zealand Paua that lives in the shorelines surrounding New Zealand. It is a species of marine gastropod mollusc's belonging to the same family as Abalone, which is found in Australia and USA.
Paua is found 1 to 10 metres from the shoreline. It is usually covered in a dark incrustation looking very insignificant. When the incrustations are removed the resulting colours of the shell are magnificent. They range in colour from green to blue and black to bright pink. These colours vary according to the temperature of the water and accordingly to the depth of the Paua. These Paua shells have been used by the Maori in their carvings as eyes in Tikis and Teko Tekos for generations.
The meat or foot of Paua is also a highly sought after delicacy to such an extent that severe restrictions are in place country wide to slow down Paua fishing, restricting the size and and weight of the Paua that is allowed to be taken.
Recent research has now determined that many of the marine minerals found in Paua are remarkably good for our skin. Paua has high concentrations of Proteins, minerals and trace elements. The Paua skincare on this web site contain all of these nutrients including a blend of natural ingredients to provide your skin with the best possible care.
