About Manuka HoneyWhat is Active AAH?
Active AAH stands for Antibacterial Antioxidant Honey. It is trademarked and strictly controlled to ensure only the best Manuka Honey products contain it.
How was AAH developed?
Extensive research was undertaken by Dr Geoffrey Savage, Associate Professor of food biochemistry at Lincoln University. He is one of New Zealand's leading authorities on the health benefits of Manuka Honey and antioxidants. Dr Savage and his team found that active AAH honeys contained extremely high, naturally occurring levels of antibacterial activity and antioxidants - far more than any other honey varietals.
How does Active AAH compare to UMF?
What do the Active AAH numbers mean?
The higher the Active AAH number the more antibacterial activity the Manuka Honey contains and the better it is for natural healing. 650+ is the highest possible level of antibacterial activity honey can have in it. This would be equivalent to the highest UMF rating available.
What are antioxidants and why are they so good?
Antioxidants de-activate free radicals in the environment. Free radicals are caused by everyday environmental factors, such as air, sunlight and pollution. Free radicals have been medically recognised as the cause of degenerative skin diseases such as wrinkles and skin discolorations and can damage cells and can harm the immune system. It is believed that using products that are high in antioxidants can help prevent or limit these negative effects.
